Harbour Town, Sea Pines Resort, Hilton Head Island

Happy Thanksgiving 2020!

This holiday was spent at Harbour Town in the beautiful Sea Pines resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

What a fantastic view we had from the balcony looking out over the marina.

Of course, I wanted the biggest luxury yacht, but I think I could only afford the tiny boat.

Can you guess what this is?

It's a manatee (also known as a sea cow). They can get up to 4 metres (13.1 ft) long and weigh as much as 590 kilos (1,300 lb).

This one greeted us every day right outside our apartment.

Boat propellers are a big danger to manatees.

The lighthouse is a landmark and symbol of Hilton Head Island.

Our favourite place for breakfast was the Harbour Town Bakery.

The cinnamon buns were scrumptiously delicious!

The bakery was once a lighthouse keeper's cottage. Here is a little history about it.

Americans love specialty coffees and tea.

My dad and Ray didn't have much luck fishing.

I had better luck spotting dolphins at the end of the pier. Can you see the water shooting up from the little one's blowhole as he takes a breath?

And, there were lots of pelicans with a few anhingas and other birds too.

Harbour Town is home to Stars & Stripes which won the 1987 America's Cup.

Now, Stars & Stripes is used as a tourist sailing experience.

Just outside the marina is the Calibogue Sound which leads to the Atlantic Ocean.

It's a lovely place for dolphin spotting, sailing and chilling in a hammock.

What a glorious evening as the sun goes down!

The map below shows Harbour Town at the southern end of the island, and the beach we enjoyed was just around the corner on "the toe of the shoe" in Sea Pines.

The sunset at the beach was just as beautiful as that on the Calibogue Sound.

Due to COVID-19, the resort wasn't as crowded as it usually is. I enjoyed the beach and ocean without having to worry about socially distancing.

While we dined at the oceanfront restaurant, we listened to the sounds of the two-man band.

The salmon with Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, hazelnuts, fresh cheese, and sherry butter sauce was delicious.

I think these rules might be to protect baby turtles from falling into the holes.

There is something so relaxing and calming about the sea and sky.

A windblown selfie on a cool, breezy day - perfect for blowing the cobwebs away.

We enjoyed some games like Rummikub and poker while relaxing in the apartment at night.

and a beautiful, tall, decorated Christmas tree

It's a tradition of many in the US to put up Christmas decorations during the Thanksgiving holidays.

Hope to see you again soon, Hilton Head Island!
